Expectations of Parents

For the smooth running of the school and for the best interests of all children, we ask that parents:

  1. attend T.I.E.S. Triangular Information Exchanges Sessions and attend P.T.S.C. (Parent Teacher Student Conferences with their portfolios)
  2. attend meetings on request
  3. return forms/monies/books on time
  4. use the communication procedure outlined by your child’s year group
  5. contact the homeroom teacher first with any issues
  6. discuss matters with staff in a respectful manner
  7. under no circumstances discipline other children
  8. provide support and follow-up at home when serious issues are reported
  9. place mobile phones on silent and refrain from answering during lessons, events or meetings
  10. send/pick up their child on time, in good health and ensure regular attendance

Learning Support

If a homeroom teacher identifies any areas where your child may need some extra help, extension, repetition, support or additional assessment, we will ask to hold a meeting with you and the Learning Support Coordinator to discuss next steps.

Illness, Medical Procedures and Emergencies

As previously indicated under Requirements and Behaviour Expectations, children are required to attend school on time, regularly and in good health and fully participate in all aspects of the programme. This means that if your child is not well enough to take part in any physical activity including outdoor breaks he or she is not well enough to be in school. Modified or alternative options will not be entertained. If your child is vomiting, has diarrhoea, a fever, a rash, a bad cough, head lice or even a runny nose, please keep him or her at home until fully recovered. If your child comes to school ill, such as, with a runny nose or a cough we will call you to pick him or her up as we want to prevent the spread of colds, flu, head lice etc. and other children or staff from being affected or becoming ill.

Should your child fall sick during the day, we will take him or her to the school nurse and you will receive a Nurse Visit Information Form. For any issue of a serious nature, the class teacher will contact you and ask you to take your child home. If your child has a high fever and both parents cannot be contacted, we will administer one children’s Panadol, if you have signed consent on the original enrolment form.

In the unlikely case of an accident emergency, when we are unable to contact you, we will take your child to the nearest Outpatients’ Clinic.

Parents should immediately notify their child’s homeroom teacher if their child contracts a contagious disease. It is also important that parents notify the homeroom teacher in writing of any long-standing illness or allergies, together with any recommendations your child’s specialist may make. We will accommodate these requirements in a caring manner as best we can within our mainstream system.

During a school emergency, such as school closure or circumstances that may cause us to send large numbers of children home, you will be contacted via a special SMS information message service or, in cases where parents do not have mobile access, directly by a phone call.

Arrival and Departure Procedures

Children should be dropped off directly to their classroom or the playground no earlier than 8.45am and be picked up from their classroom at 3.45pm. Supervision outside these times will not be possible. It is not safe to leave children to walk to class on their own from the school gates. Please note that though you may have a chat with your child’s teacher during these times, it is not appropriate to discuss sensitive matters or specific issues regarding your child as the class teachers are unable to give you their full attention as they are on active duty. Please write a note in the blue communication book if you need to request a meeting and we will be happy to arrange a time for you. Also for safety reasons, if your child’s travel arrangements change for whether one particular day or longer, the teacher should be notified in writing in the blue communication book or a message left with reception no later than 2.30pm. It is your responsibility to inform the Bus Company of any changes as they are a separate company. Children who catch buses will be walked to their homerooms or bus under the Bus Auntie’s supervision, who is responsible and is expected to report any issues that occur directly to parents. If we receive reports of any issues, we will pass information immediately to the Bus Company and parents. Although we will obviously always place the care of a student first, issues that occur on the bus are not under our direct supervision or control and will need to be first addressed with the Bus Company.

Morning Procedure

Early Years Programme. Children are dropped straight to the classroom at 8:45am to do welcome activities or quiet reading activities as they arrive.

Junior Programme. Children will play outside on the astro-turf until the first whistle blows when they will then ‘freeze’ and following the second whistle they will line up with their teacher and walk to their classrooms. Children are not allowed in the classroom hallways to drop off bags in the morning prior to 9.00am; they must wait until after the bell rings to bring their bags up.

End of Day Procedure

Early Years Programme: Pick Up. Children who are Pick-Up will be picked up in an allocated room of the Year Group.

Early Years Programme: Bus. Children catching a bus are handed to bus aunties promptly at 3.45pm in the canteen one at a time. Once all the children have arrived at the bus line the bus aunties then take children to the buses. Older children are expected to demonstrate kindness and help the younger children along.

Students who are usually on the bus but have been indicated as pick up for that day must be picked up at the bus pick up line in the canteen. Please do not take your child until the bus pick up teacher (Ms. Solomon) has seen you and ticked the student off the list.

Junior Programme: Pick Up. One room from each year group will be allocated as the 'pick up' room for children who are indicated as pick up by their year level.
Year 3 Mr. Holland room 3L
Year 4Miss Maparoom 3O
Year 5Mr. Quennevilleroom 5D
Year 6Miss Kellyroom 5E

Junior Programme: Bus. Children are walked down to their buses by the teachers. Students who are usually on the bus but have been indicated as pick up for that day must be picked up at the bus pick up line in the canteen. Please do not take your child until the bus pick up teacher (Ms. Solomon) has seen you and ticked the student off the list.

School Uniform

Primary Programme children will need to tie long hair back and are required to wear the official school uniform which can be obtained from: Bibi & Baba, Shaw Centre #03-06/07 (Uniform World), ph.67327022. Please note that girls are welcome to wear the shorts, skirts, skorts and shirt option in lieu of the dress as it may be more comfortable especially when using the outdoor equipment each day. Earrings should be ‘studs’ and should not dangle to avoid accidents. No other jewelry should be worn at any time, with the exception of items that bear religious significance. Children are required to wear black footwear of any type as long as it is safe.

P.E. uniforms can be purchased from the school Reception. Children will need to wear proper trainers/sneakers during a P.E. lesson. As Early years children in our Programme use a lot of climbing, peddling and other equipment throughout the day your child should wear safe and comfortable slip-on or Velcro-style shoes or sandals.

School Canteen Menu

Early Years Programme. Each month a menu will be sent home for you to select, if you choose, your child’s school lunch which includes an afternoon snack at the cost provided with the payment details at the bottom of the order form. You will need to send back the menu with your selections and payment for that month. You will also still need to send in a morning snack. Due to this system children will not need to bring money to school other than monthly lunch orders. Due to record keeping and ensuring your child receives his or her lunch each day, please return the completed forms and payment to your child’s homeroom Teaching Team.

Junior Programme. Children can bring in a morning snack, afternoon snack and a packed lunch. All of these items can also be bought from the canteen ($5.00 should be sufficient for the day).

Out-of-Class Learning

Out of class learning will take place regularly during the year to support our Units of Inquiry. PYP requires us to access and use our local context and environment as a powerful resource. To make the most efficient use of time and to avoid what is an administrative intensive task, we have arranged for Accounts to invoice parents $75 per semester for field trips. This will not include residential trips in the Junior Years. This is an estimated figure and any remaining money will be refunded to you at the end of each semester. Parents will still need to sign for their child to attend a field trip, or if their child cannot attend, then parents will need to keep their child at home.

Parents may be asked to help teachers in supervising students on outings. Parents should assume responsibilities similar to the teacher in charge and supervise all students who attend the trip. Please note that if you have agreed to assist on a field trip, bringing siblings is discouraged because we need the accompanying adults to focus on the children for safety reasons. Field trips require a ratio of 1 adult to 5 children. We usually approach a few parents to assist on a field trip and will incorporate the expense into the cost and allow for seating on the bus/transport. Other parents are welcome to meet us at the venue but will need to pay for their own entry and costs.
