Chatsworth International School Singapore
Primary School

Dear Families,

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our families from the Primary School. Our Primary School maintains the two distinct areas of the Early Years (K1 - Yr2) and the Junior Years (Yr3 - Yr6).

Our second school Mission Statement is a commitment to fostering the development of responsible and caring future world-citizens. We have always worked very hard to maintain and actively promote the part of Chatsworth that makes us a wonderful place for learning. We maintain that our school spirit and friendly atmosphere is essential to our students and their learning. It is one of our defining attributes and is zealously protected by our community. To ensure we actively nurture ‘who we are’ as a school, one of our essential goals is to actively promote our school spirit and ethos to enhance student learning. We have Houses (Changi-red, Raffles-yellow, Sentosa-green) to inspire students to work towards personal goals, promote school citizenship and work together in teams. Merit points are issued to children for good work, sporting achievement, modeling the learner profile attributes, and citizenship. All members of a family belong to the same house with teachers of the younger siblings checking which house the older sibling has been placed.

We are also charged with the task of integrating the IB learner profile attributes and the PYP attitudes that are fundamental in building the foundation for values in an internationally minded person. To bring our school community together and as part of this goal we will be planning weekly events to celebrate Sports and the Arts. This is to support the first of our school’s Mission Statements of providing students with a strong academic education which will encourage them to excel, whilst at the same time promoting active participation in the arts and sports.

We are implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) and we are extremely enthusiastic and dedicated to its approach and philosophy as it directly supports our school’s mission to inspire, educate and enlighten. It is a non-national based "best practice" educational framework that aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. We are in the process of authorization and are currently at the candidacy stage. This process is also in many ways a continuing journey even after authorization is achieved. We will take careful and steady steps through each stage to allow our entire community time to learn and grow through this together. We will share as much information as possible about our campus’ developments in relation to the IB PYP’s standards, practices and processes.

We have an Open Door Philosophy. Parents have equal access to teachers, particularly when you as a parent feel it is necessary to meet with them. We recognize how important your child is to you. In addition, parents need to remember that teachers are ethically bound and required to discuss all aspects of a student’s school experience and progress. Therefore when discussing a child’s progress, meetings can have the potential to be emotionally charged. Both parties need to remember that they each have the child’s best interest at heart, need to avoid attack-defense interactions and focus on discussions about and solutions for the student.

We will be sharing ways in which we are involving our school community, in particular, how parents will be involved with their child’s learning and school experience. However, if you choose to involve yourself even further please contact your child’s homeroom teacher next school year or the Chatsworth Support Group (CSG). The CSG’s purpose is to positively and actively support the aims and objectives of the Chatsworth International School community.

In addition to planned parent participatory sessions throughout the year, we strongly encourage parents to get involved in their child’s education at school by visiting the classroom to assist with activities/lessons, watching performances or attending/helping with field trips. Please speak with your child’s teacher in advance so we will be able to plan and make the most of your time with us.

Your child’s homeroom teacher will provide you with further information specific to their year level during Orientation and updates will be provided throughout the year. Please see our website for calendar dates.

We truly look forward to working with you and your child.

Kind Regards,

Primary Leadership Team
